Beth Seddon
Beth is a social worker with a Masters degree in Social Work, who has over thirty years practical experience working with individuals, couples and families. She has lived and worked in Canberra for sixteen of those years and has worked in a variety of organisations and fields, including adult mental health, as well as child and adolescent mental health. She was Director of Relationships Australia Canberra and Region for over ten years (1988 to 1999) and following that National Director of Relationships Australia. Prior to moving to Canberra, Beth lived and worked in Adelaide, where she lectured in Social Work for three years and worked at St Corantyn clinic, a community mental health centre, for six years. Beth has recently returned to Canberra from Edinburgh where she worked as a family therapist, researcher /writer and consultant for four and a half years. In 2003, she published a book with Allan and Unwin titled Creative Parenting After Separation, the focus of which is to help parents come to a better understanding of their separation and their continued role as parents. This book also addresses step-parenting issues.
As can be seen from her work experience, Beth has a focus on working with relationships and the issues that affect them. She has particular expertise in working with people experiencing difficulties in their intimate relationships (including separation), families of all types going through conflict and difficulties, either between parents and children, or parents and their adult offspring, and people living with violence and abuse. She also has considerable experience in working with people experiencing depression, eating difficulties, body image and weight concerns and other mental health issues such as anxiety and stress.
Beth is happy to discuss referrals and work jointly with other professionals where appropriate. She also offers a consultation service for professionals as well as professional supervision. Beth is a member of the AASW.
